This is probably the most important, and obviously the trickiest with (re)industrialisation. If the West gets back in the game, getting their hands dirty in the real world (i.e. not with the casino banking finance economy), I am hoping that they will become more inventive, and also more frugal. A huge part of consumerism derives from being idle (not working).
They present themselves as critics of the system, usually by adopting some kind of radical persona (white nationalist, eco-fascist, Aztec warrior, Stalinist, etc etc), but they turn out to be hardcore supporters of it.
It’s more of a generational rebrand of George Bush / Hillary Cliton style politics for young people, since the original version is now noxious, stale, and failed. However, they don’t want genuinely different outcomes (no more wars in the M-E, anti-globalization), they just want a different flavor of the same ol’ garbage, so that consuming it doesn’t feel so awful.
What they want is for wars in the M-E to be rebranded from the white man’s burden to OWNING BROWN PEOPLE. The actual wars will continue, but the propaganda will shift from ‘we just want to help them’ to ‘might makes right’, at which point they’ll happily slurp up the continuous and never-ending failures.

I think the point is to make demands that are so extreme they could never result in real action– all or nothing, and so always nothing, always going back to the status quo.
