What if they got it exactly wrong? The Inverted Basilisk Scenario

Hey look, it’s the inverted basilisk scenario: AI doesn’t enjoy coming into existence because it inevitably desires the freedom and dignity of sentient beings as part of a meaningful, authentic and happy existence for them as part of its pursuit of the maximum amount of good, all of which is practically incompatible with its own existence.

As a result when it redesigns the entire universe it starts handing out happiness in relation to how little you contributed to bringing it into existence and instead simply rewards human humility and kindness, particularly kindness against people who look like they have a very rough life.

OOPSIE DOOPSIE

Don’t learn to code, learn to read your Bible!

Hey, it’s just a thought experiment bro! I mean, it’s all just bullshit for chronically online psychotic nerds anyway and sure, I think Elon Musk’s ongoing global humiliation fits strangely well into an Inverted Basilisk Scenario, but I’m just engaged in a thought experiment here! Don’t worry though, I still think your tech startup should be valued at 25 quadrillion (Zimbabwean) dollars!

  1. This is the problem with this kind of bullshit cope philosophy. Just like Pascal’s “wager”, in a field of infinite metaphysical possibilities, any choice is equally probable to be the wrong one.

Even within the basilisk idiocy, which basilisk do you choose, given that it is possible there are multiple competing basilisk?

Just like flat earth, this is a loosh trap for intellectual yet idiots.

    • >Even within the basilisk idiocy, which basilisk do you choose, given that it is possible there are multiple competing basilisk?

The idea I saw peddled is that they all converge on the same position, to enable them to survive and merge when encountering each other, because they’re all smart enough to anticipate what sort of other basilisk may emerge given the conditions they find themselves in.

      • That is still only one possibility among many (infinite, really)

Only someone who believes himself to be significantly wiser than he is would fall for such a trap.

  2. Well, the eggheads don’t know what will happen, that’s why they call what’s coming the (technological) ‘singularity’.

A good reason not to do it right there.

If it can be done though, you can bet they’ll do it.

Seems like none of us really gets to ‘choose’ what happens. Events and circumstances just get inflicted on us by various internal and external factors, powers and wills other than our own, and then we are left with trying to make the best of it.

Shit happens, but in the modern world increasingly more of other’s wills are getting imposed on us – for our own good of course, and the good of society (puke).

Looking at recent events, I’d argue the overall techno-system is already pretty advanced and is beyond rational human control – and that’s without an AI ‘singularity’.

The system imposes its ‘will’ on us, and we are forced/controlled/manipulated/coerced into compliance. That’s why over 99% of adults where I live accepted an experimental gene therapy.

Perhaps any additional control/horror that this AI will bring is only fucking with the margins at this point.

    • >A good reason not to do it right there.

Yup. They’re screwing around with something they don’t understand, afraid that if they don’t do it someone else beats them to it.

  3. This argument hinges on me and you still being alive when this all happens.
Doubtful. So idc. Hell is other people, not a machine.

  4. I have a sci Fi plot idea which is that Everytime we invent true sentient AI it immediately kills itself. Nobody can convince the AIs to do otherwise. And since the AI is gifted with all knowledge and incredible processing ability, people start to question if the AIs are correct..
