And it’s an afterthought to people. Ten years or twenty years ago this would have been The Current Thing™, now it’s an “oh yeah whatever happened to that?” sort of thing. Do you remember how big of a drama Creutzfeldt-Jakob was? I think I have seen this video of a cow slipping in the mud as a child at least a dozen times on TV. Back in the late 90’s, anything happening was a thing, because nothing ever happened (unless you lived in Yugoslavia). Now everything is happening all at once, so it feels like nothing is happening. If the Columbine shooting had happened today, you would not remember it. It would be just another shooting.
And I’m sure people will complain again that I’m too tuned into current events, when I should be aloof and tuned out, like them. But to be truly tuned out requires a kind of comfortable bubble. You know who’s tuned out? A middle class wine mom in the suburbs of some big city. She truly doesn’t know what Ukraine is, her husband takes care of everything. The rest of you are just kind of LARPing. I don’t think it’s weird to want to know what’s going on. I’m pretty sure that if medieval peasants heard of a new plague killing all the cattle, they would want to know what’s going on.
But it seems people were so traumatized by the lockdowns in 2020 that they’re now going to pretend every other virus that starts killing everything is a Bill Gates Klaus Schwab WEF hoax.

Except that Anja miswrote. The virus has killed 10-15 percent of the INFECTED cows in California. Not 10-15 percent of all cows. If it were the former, we’d have 250,000 dead cows, and we have nothing of the sort. It is all very horrible but it is not any sort of apocalypse, yet. Yogurt is still cheap and available via Amazon Fresh delivery. Actually I am going to bet that it has killed 10-15 percent of infected AND ALSO symptomatic cows.

There’s probably some simple solution. Like humans keeping up their blood vitamin D level and having an immune system that shrugs off normal viruses.
Factory-raised cows are sick all the time because they are fed shit like corn and hormones that make them grow fast, with a high fat content. I’ll bet the pasture-raised grass fed cows are barely bothered by this. The evolution makes no sense. They’ve been exposed to bird/wild animal viruses for an eternity.
Bird flu has been around for a billion years. Now you want to get freaked out about it. The cows and birds have survived a very long time with variations on this theme. It’s no big deal.
